President's Message
Like you, the Little NHL Executive is anxiously waiting for the 37th Annual Little Native Hockey League Tournament. This year’s tournament will be held in the City of Sault Ste. Marie from Monday, March 10th to Thursday, March 13th, 2008. Batchewana First Nation will be the Host Community. Chief Dean Sayers along with Trevor Sayers and their committee will be working very diligently over the next six months to ensure their community runs a memorable event!

I would like to thank (in advance) the 2008 Tournament Team Managers and their team personnel who take the time to put a team together so that the children are able participate in the 37th annual LNHL tournament. The yearly success of this tournament depends on each and every teams’ participation and we wish you the very best in organizing your teams for 2008.

The LNHL Executive would also like to thank the representatives (~30 people) from 13 First Nations across Ontario who participated in last April’s meeting to review all the rules governing this tournament. There were some significant changes and we anticipate this will increase the number of players and revive interest from New or Former First Nation Teams. For a copy of the revised rules please click on the “Rules” section of this site. If you prefer the rules be e-mailed or faxed to you, please contact our Admin Assistant Jacinta Shawanda at (705) 377-5307, ext.214 OR e-mail her at jshawanda@uccm.ca or info@littlenativehockeyleague.com .

There was plenty of interest in establishing a Girls Peewee Division; so, this year we will be adding this division. We are also renaming the Jr. & Sr. Girls Divisions to Bantam Girls and Midget Girls – for age groups of the Girls Divisions please see “Rules” page of this site. We hope that there will be four or more teams in each of these Girls Divisions. Let’s all do our part to encourage more of our young girls to participate in the sport of Hockey!

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the LNHL please feel free to contact me at marvin@vianet.ca or 1 - (705) 368-3601. On behalf of the LNHL Executive Committee, the Host Committee and the Host City, we all look forward to meeting you next March!

Miigwetch,
Marvin Assinewai, President, LNHL Executive Committee
